Mobula rays in Baja California have a habit of jumping out of the water–and nobody knows why.

An amazing overhead video of dolphins riding waves like a bunch of surfer dudes. Or maybe it’s the other way around! Stick around for the hydroplaning in the second half!

The common octopus has some very uncommon abilities to change its color, shape and even texture to blend right into its background. It has little sacs of pigment called chromataphores in its body that it can activate by contracting certain muscles. That doesn’t quite explain insanity like this for us, but it’s what the scientists say.

Be patient and watch closely to what one dolphin is doing with his tail. Believe it or not, scientists think this is an ancient skill–and explains why dolphins are so good at messing around with balls in aquarium shows.

Dolphins are darn smart. They can be trained, they “talk” to each other underwater. Some dolphins in Australia even use tools, putting sea sponges on their noses to protect themselves while they forage in scratchy sand. This video shows how much personality they have–creating underwater bubble rings and chasing them around, manipulating them, breaking them into smaller rings, letting them halo around their heads. Amazing!
